An invitational chess tournament in Quebec City this coming Summer

Dear chess fans,

We are pleased to inform you that registration is now open for our forcoming 16th invitational chess tournament for blind and visually impaired players, the « Tournoi Caecitas », which is to be held in Quebec City (Canada) from August 14 to 16, 2026. Chief sponsor : the Caecitas Foundation
Joint organizers : Association québécoise de joueurs d’échecs handicapés visuels (AQJEHV) for chess-related aspects, and Carrefour québécois des personnes aveugles (CQPA) for all logistics issues.

Tournament venue & accomodation : Hotel Ambassador, 3401, Boul. St. Anne, Quebec, Canada; +1 418 666-2828; link to hotel Webpage . Transportation between the Quebec Jean-Lesage Airport and the hotel provided by the organisation.

A restaurant as well as free access to pool, spa and fitness center are among the many amenities available on site (see Webpage for more). Several shops and popular restaurants lay at walking distance from the hotel, which in turn is only 10 minutes distant by car from down town Quebec.

Tournament information

This is a rated 5-round Swiss tournament, increment : Fischer (90 min +30 sec).
Registration fee in Canadian currency : 25 $.
Prizes : up to 1 000 $.
Each player must bring his or her own chess material, including board & pieces, clock, headpones and note taking device.

General playing schedule :
– Friday 14 : rd 1 (afternoon), rd 2 (evening)
– Saturday 15 : rd 3 (morning), rd 4 (afternoon)
– Sunday 16 : rd 5 (morning), followed by prizes and midday meal.

Board & lodgings

All packages include two nights accomodation (Friday, 14 and Saturday, 15), + Friday evening meal, Sunday and Saturday breakfast & lunch.

Rates per person, in Canadian currency :

Package 1, double participant occupancy
 225 $ if registration before May, 3
 375 $ if registration after May, 3

Package 2, single participant occupancy
 425 $ if registration before May, 3
 575$ if réservation after May, 3

Package 3, participant with accompanying person
 315 $ if registration before May, 3
 415 $ if registration after May 3

Please specify on registerring the kind of accomodation you wish. Depending on availability, double occupants may also choose between 1 large bed or 2 double. All rooms are heated / air-conditioned and feature standard equipment such as fridge, wardrobe, desk, ironing board, towels and toiletry.

Please note

1: A 10-room block has been reserved for the duration of the tournament, and a 5-room block for extra nights at the special rate of 201 $ (tax included). More rooms could be available if needed, upon timely reservation. Please do register early, since we cannot keep those rooms blocked too long in peak tourist season.

2: The Saturday evening meal is not included in the package, so those of you who wish to indulge in a bit of tourism may do so. However, a group reservation in one of the many populaur restaurants near the hotel can be made if requested.

Terms of payment

Our terms of payment will be communicated to you following your registration.

Certification

Since this is a homologated competition, a valid license from an official Chess Federation is required. Participants who do not have any may request one and pay it along with their registration or on site at the tournament venue.

General information on our city

Quebec is a safe place to live in and well worth visiting, with its old fortifications and the distincly European atmosphere of its historic center. Among its most famous attractions are the Château Frontenac, the Dufferin Terrasse, the Montmorency Falls, the St. Lawrence river, the St. Anne Basilica and the Petit Champlain area. Average temperature in August lies between 22 to 24° Celsius.
